Ida Rosemary Morra Cafiero passed peacefully at 4:55 am this morning in her sleep. Despite the hours her children spent by her bedside the past two weeks, she was alone as she took her last breath. This last unselfish act is believed to be intentional by her children as she would have wanted to spare them the pain of being with her at that time.
She, as well as her family, suffered the effect of Alzheimers the past several years. The disease stole from her the memories she had gathered in her 85 years with us. She no longer remembered her husband Thomas whom she married in 1955, nor the 54 years they spent together before his death four years ago. She failed to recognize her three children, Thomas, Arlene or Steven; their spouses, Fran, Joseph and Patric respectively, nor her grandchildren Robert and Nicolette. Her large, loving, extended family also faded away with each passing year.
We shall remember her as a strong, opinionated woman who’s motive was always love for her family and friends. In the end, despite her illness, she took back control of this her last act and chose to bring down the curtain on her terms.
We kindly ask that in lieu of flowers you consider a donation to Alzheimers Association alz.org.
Her family wishes to extend a thank you to all those who have offered support over these challenging last weeks and in the days ahead.
