Henning Nielsen, 82, a long-time resident of White Plains died Saturday evening, June 21. He grew up in Bayside, Queens, and graduated from New York University. His military service was spent in the southwest with atomic weaponry. He enjoyed a long career in public relations representing many Fortune 500 corporations. He also oversaw the publicity for the Statue of Liberty/Ellis Island restoration and centennial celebration. He was a member of the Public Relations Society of America (Fairfield County branch), the Westchester Radio Aero Modelers, Inc., and the Old Guard of White Plains. He served as president of each. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Joan Haynes Nielsen, and their three children, Chris, Peter, and Hilary. He is also survived by his brother Kenneth of Auburn, California. Henning had many interests - traveling, cooking, trapshooting, and all things Danish - but it was his six grandchildren who made his heart sing. They are Erin, Scott, Lauren, Nicole, Lyra, and Thor. A memorial service will be held on Friday, June 27 at Ballard-Durand Funeral Home, 2 Maple Avenue, White Plains from 1-3pm.
