Gregory Mastrangelo of Thornwood and Andes, N.Y. died on May 18, 2014 at the age of 66 after a long and heroic struggle with prostate cancer. He is bereaved by his three sons, Brian, Matthew and Scott, his sister, Jean Mastrangelo and his beloved Robi (Franz). His wife Christine predeceased him on Oct.29, 2005. Greg was born February 3, 1948 in New York City and grew up in Tuckahoe. As a young man he obtained a degree in Aircraft Maintenance Engineering. Upon graduation he became an instructor at the Academy of Aeronautics at LaGuardia Airport while working part time at Celestino's Service Station in White Plains, N.Y. In 1980 he acquired Celestino's which he has owned and operated for the past thirty five years. He was a skilled and devoted mechanic and businessman, but his legacy will be his unbounded generosity with his time and money for anyone needing assistance. He will be deeply missed and always loved by a huge and diverse network of friends, many of whom frequented his garage to talk, laugh, drink coffee, ask for his advice on wide ranging issues, and listen with admiration to his next plan for his annual spectacular Fourth of July party and fireworks display at his house in the Catskills. Reposing, Hawthorne Funeral Home on Tuesday and Wednesday, 5-9 PM. where funeral services will be held on Thursday, 11 AM.
Interment Private. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to The Visiting Nurse Association of the Hudson Valley would be appreciated.
