Graham C. Driscoll

March 6, 1930 — August 9, 2023

Hartsdale, NY

Graham Driscoll of Hartsdale, NY died on August 9th at 93 years old. He was born in Teaneck, NJ to Betty McNeil, a New York City social worker, and Graham Driscoll, Sr., who worked at J.P. Morgan.

He was the beloved husband for 50 years of Joan (nee Hofmann). In addition to his wife he is survived by four children: Henry Curtis of Hawaii, Donald Driscoll, Alan Driscoll, and Jane Driscoll all of California; and by Carol (Levy), his former wife, who is the mother of his four children. He also is survived by three stepdaughters: Mary Kane of Philadelphia, Peg Michel of Middleton, WI, and Tricia Michel of Denver CO, and by several grandchildren. He is predeceased by his sisters Joy Antonelli and Jean McNeil.

Graham grew up in Greenwich Village. He went to PS3 and Walden grade schools and graduated from The Bronx High School of Science and then from Columbia College. He also received a Master's degree from RPI and a PhD from Cornell University, both in Mathematics.

Graham worked for IBM for 32 years. He was one of the principal developers of the APL language at the Thomas J. Watson Research Center and later worked at the Philadelphia Scientific Center.

Graham was a great railfan. His enthusiasm for model railroads as a child grew into an interest as an adult in subways as well as locomotives and rolling stock, bridges and signaling. He made over 70 round trips across the country by rail.

Later in life Graham developed a passion for Renaissance Art; he and Joan travelled extensively by rail throughout Italy, to see both famous and obscure works. The love for art expanded to a love for Italy itself and they made many trips enjoying the architecture, food, culture and sheer beauty of the country.

Graham and Joan formed the Hartsdale Beautification Committee which over the years has placed 20 planters of flowers along E. Hartsdale Ave., and then established a perennial garden at the Hartsdale Train Station.

A private memorial will be held later next month. Donations to the Hartsdale Beautification Fund in Graham's memory can be sent to Kathy Evers, 22 Club Way, Hartsdale, NY 10530. Checks should be made payable to "The Town of Greenburgh" and the memo field should say "Hartsdale Beautification Fund."
