George Carl Stegmann 83, of Thornwood, N.Y. died on March 24, 2011. He was born on Feb.20, 1928 to the late John Ernst and Auguste (nee Stich) Stegmann in New Rochelle, N.Y. He graduated from Pelham Memorial High School, Class of 1946, and went on to serve proudly in the US Navy from 1946-1948 on the Battleship New Jersey. George then graduated from Brooklyn Polytechnic Institute in 1959. In August of 1964 he married Muriel Reynolds. He was a mechanical engineer for Bechtel and later Con Edison in NYC. George was chairman and treasurer of Westchester Section of American Society of Mechanical Engineers, Member of Hawthorne American Legion Post 112 and liaison to the Boy Scouts of America, Former President and Board Member of Westchester Con Ed Retirees, Board Member of the Consumers Energy Cooperative Inc. located in Millwood, N.Y., Former Council President of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Hawthorne, N.Y., was a 47 year member of the National Ski Patrol and took great pride in the fact that he helped raise funds and build the playground at the Mt.Pleasant Town Pool. He is survived by his devoted wife Muriel Stegmann of Thornwood, N.Y. his loving sons; John James Stegmann and his wife Patti of Croton, N.Y. and Scot George Stegmann and his wife Lin of Coventry, RI. Also survived by his three cherished grandchildren; Tyler John, Alexander Brandon and Morgan Grace Stegmann. Reposing Hawthorne Funeral Home on Sunday, 3-7 PM.
