George L McElroy

George L. McElroy Jr., formerly of Elmsford, NY, died October 29, 2016 in Somers, NY.
He was born February 6, 1923, the son of George and Mary (Bresnahan) McElroy. He moved to Elmsford at an early age and remained until relocating to Yorktown, NY in 2011. George graduated from Alexander Hamilton High School and attended Iona College prior to induction into the US Army. He served in the Rainbow Division in World War ll in the European Theater as a Private First Class. He joined the Elmsford Police Department after discharge, retiring as Chief in 1984. On June 22, 1947 he married Alice Yaeger who predeceased him in 1992. George was an avid hunter and fisherman who enjoyed spending time at his camps in Franklin Falls, NY. He was an Exempt member of Elmsford Fire Company #1. In his later years he most enjoyed spending time with his great grandchildren, Sean and Ryan Dean. George is survived by his daughter Maureen (John) Caley of North Salem, NY, grandsons Tim (Miranda) Caley of Union City, California, Kevin Caley of Charlotte, North Carolina, Jack Caley of North Salem, granddaughters Megan (John) Dean of Bethel Connecticut, Tara (Michael) Espejo of Brighton, Massachusetts, Katherine (Thomas) Wilkowski of Cicero, NY, brother Robert, and numerous nieces and nephews. Two brothers, William and Thomas, predeceased him. The family wishes to thank the staff of Somers Manor Rehabilitation for their professional and compassionate care. In lieu of flowers those wishing to make contributions in George’s memory are asked to donate to Paws Crossed Animal Rescue of Elmsford, NY.
