George served in the Army during the Korean War under his birth name, Joseph Kanof. He was stationed in Poitier, France and was the Communications Specialist. He enjoyed sharing his good humor and talent as he participated in entertaining the troops.
His work in the ball bearing industry as Vice President of International Relations and Director of the Micro Ball Bearing Division at General Bearing Corporation sent him traveling around the world. George enjoyed tennis, golf, and boating. He was an avid photographer, who marveled at Cape Cod’s landscapes, it’s waters, and it’s extraordinary sunsets for nearly sixty years. He appreciated history, theater, movies, college sports, music of all kinds, and reading. He was happy to go to the track, especially with his nephew, David Gussack.
George was an extremely loyal friend to many. He treasured his friendships with Billy Fischgrund and Herbie Michaelis and missed them deeply after they passed. He will forever be one of the boys from Weeks Avenue and with their wives, they were The Group.
