Frank Imondo passed away on February 28, 2023, at home surrounded by his loving family. Frank was born on August 26, 1933 in White Plains, to the late William Imondo and Michelina (nee Varvaro) Imondo. He was raised in Greenburgh on Russell Street surrounded by his many beloved aunts, uncle and cousins.
Frankie graduated from Alexander Hamilton High School where he excelled in sports, notably basketball, football and baseball. He proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1953- 1955.
He married the love of his life, Eileen Marie Raftery, on November 5, 1955 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Elmsford an, they were married for 66 years.
Frankie worked at Varvaro's Deli, which was established by his Italian immigrant grandparents from the time that he was a teenager. He and his cousin John Varvaro were sole proprietors of the deli from 1966 through 1986.
He was an active member of the Elmsford American-Italian Club for over 50 years, serving as President and on the Board where he catered countless events and parties as well as cooking for numerous club meetings, dinners and clambakes. Frank also catered many events for the Town of Elmsford. He was a talented singer and drummer and was persuaded to sing at many family and friends' weddings especially when the crowd chanted his name. A proficient golfer, Frank had several hole-in-ones and was also an active bowler for many years in White Plains, New York. Frank was a beloved figure in Elmsford and Greenburgh. He had friends of all ages and his sweet and friendly personality captivated everyone that he met. He was an avid fan of the New York Mets and the New York Jets.
His beloved wife Eileen predeceased him September 4, 2022. Frank is survived by his beloved children Marie (Michael) Smith, Michelle (Bart) Hecht, Teresa (John) Speranza, Margaret (Guillermo) Vascones, Frank P. Imondo, and Liam (Allison) Imondo. He was the adoring grandfather of Gabrielle, Jordan (Sahara), Lee, Ethan, Michael, William, Hope, Kylie, and Dylan.
Frankie is also survived by his beloved sister Rosann Motts of Greenburgh and his brother William (Joyce) of Dania Beach, Florida along with many loving nieces and nephews.
Mass of Catholic Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, March 4, 2023 at 10am at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Elmsford, NY. Burial will follow in the Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne, NY. Reposing at the Ballard-Durand Funeral Home, 72 East Main Street, Elmsford, NY, on Friday, March 3, 2023, from 2-4pm and 7-9pm.
