In the afternoon of March 28, 2013 in Mount Vernon Hospital, Frances Yvonne Wiggins, 71, of Scarsdale, NY unexpectedly left her earthly body & entered into her eternal rest. Her husband, children, daughter-in-law and several nieces were at her bedside.
Born on April 20, 1941 in Richmond, VA to the late Charles and Hester Moore, Frances was the third daughter of four children; the late Ethel Dawson of Richmond, VA, Jeanne Smith of Wichita, KS, and Hester (Ann) Banks of Richmond, VA.
Highly educated, Frances' lettered journey started when she graduated from St. Patrick's High School in 1960. She received a Bachelor of Science degree from Virginia Union University in 1965. Frances obtained her Master of Arts degree from Hunter College, New York in 1971 and a Master of Science degree from Fordham University in 1976. Lastly, she attained a Certificate of Competency in Computer Literacy from LaGuardia Community College/CUNY in 1990.
Frances married Charles (Gary) Wiggins on May 22, 1971, beginning a partnership that would thrive for 41 years. Born from their union were two sons Victor & Joseph Wiggins.
In life, Frances was an educator in the New York City public school system for over 25 years and taught hundreds at Theodore Roosevelt High School in Bronx, NY from 1983 to 1996. Her vast knowledge influenced everyone she met. Frances was also very active in the Greenburgh community through her role as a devoted member of the Sacred Heart Parish and her volunteer work at Burke Rehabilitation Center in White Plains, NY. She was a kind and giving soul who would lend assistance to all in any way she was able to. Countless considered her a "second mom."� Most of all, Frances cherished her role as wife, mother and grandmother. It would be difficult to find a better example of a devoted wife, selfless mother and grandmother, devout Catholic and a great friend.
Frances is preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Hester Moore; her sister, Ethel Dawson; her niece, Terrie Thurston; and her mother-in-law, Kadril Wiggins of Manhattan, NY.
Left to treasure her memory are her loving husband Charles Wiggins of Scarsdale, NY; sons, Victor Wiggins of Dover, PA, Joseph Wiggins and his wife Sara of Union, NJ; and grandchildren, Leilani and Tryston.
She is also survived by her sisters Jeanne Smith of Wichita, KS and Hester (Ann) Banks of Richmond, VA; brothers-in-law, Thomas Smith of Wichita, KS, Jasper Banks of Richmond, VA, Kenneth Wiggins of Bronx, NY, William Clinton of Hopewell Junction, NY, and Ernest Wiggins of Manhattan, NY; sisters-in-law, Sandra Wiggins of Bronx, NY, Gloria Wiggins of Bronx, NY, Carole Clinton of Hopewell Junction, NY, Cathleen Wiggins of Manhattan, NY, nephews, Vernon Dawson of Richmond, VA, Charles (Chucky) Dawson of Richmond, VA, John Banks of Chesapeake, VA, Franklin Thurston Jr. of Richmond, VA, Sylvester Palmer of Brooklyn, NY, Derrick Wiggins of Bronx, NY, Michael Clinton of Colorado Springs, CO and Ernest Clinton of Hopewell Junction, NY; nieces, Pamela Palmer of Brooklyn, NY, Tania Troutman-Daley of Bronx, NY, LaShawn Wiggins of Brooklyn, NY, Cheryl Shorter of Columbus, GA, Netfa Perry of Bronx, NY, Donna Banks of Chesapeake, VA, Alexis Wiggins of Bronx, NY and Camille Wiggins of Manhattan, NY; foster sisters: Paula Clark of Richmond, VA, Mary Clark of Richmond, VA, Estelle Johnson of Richmond, VA and Rebecca Manigo of Richmond, VA; and foster brother Joseph Clark of Richmond, VA.
Frances touched the lives of many and was adored by everyone she encountered. She leaves a lasting imprint on the hearts of her family, her friends and her community. An angel on earth has now returned to heaven and she will be sadly missed.
