Frances Gustavson

Beloved mother of Lisa and Mark, died at the age of 78 on April 5, 2021 in her home in White Plains, New York. Fran is also survived by her son-in-law Christopher Sales; daughter-in-law Rachel Gustavson; four granddaughters, Chloe and Matilda Sales and Vivian and Piper Gustavson; her sisters Susan Sandman and Marion Stern, and brother-in-law Stephen Stern; nieces Alison and Jennifer, and nephew David, their spouses, and five grand nieces and nephews.

Fran received her AB from Vassar College and MS from NYU's Courant Institute, both in mathematics, and her PhD in Computer Science from Polytechnic Institute of New York.

Dr. Gustavson worked at IBM Research before becoming a professor of Information Systems at Pace University where she was on the faculty for over thirty years, retiring in 2007.

Fran enjoyed traveling, gardening (especially thistles), tropical marine aquaria, folk dancing, music, her treasured Tibetan Terrier, and spending time with family. She will be greatly missed by family and friends.

A memorial service will be held this summer. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested for Planned Parenthood Federation of America.
