Dr. Fereshteh Kovner, beloved wife, mother, and pediatrician passed away on January 4, 2024 at the age of 92.
She is survived by her husband of fifty eight years Dr. Richard Kovner; daughter Linda Moran and husband Michael Moran; granddaughter Rebecca Cortez and husband Manuel Cortez; grandson Justin Moran; great granddaughter Jeshia Cortez; sister Monireh Yazdpour; and niece Sabrina Gonzalez Yazdpour and husband David Gonzalez, grand nephew Sean Gonzalez Yazdpour; and grandniece Isobel Gonzalez Yazdpour; niece Laila Hands and husband Steven Hands; and grand nephew JT Hands.
Dr. Kovner was born in Shiraz, Iran and was the oldest of three children. She went to medical school in Iran and immigrated to the US in 1963 to conduct her residency and internship. She became a US citizen and made her permanent home in America. Dr. Kovner was an accomplished pediatrician. She dedicated her life to caring for children and serving others. For most of her career, she worked for the ArchDiocese in New York City providing top notch medical care to children with developmental disabilities from underserved communities. Her patients and families were touched by the gentle and loving medical care that she provided to the children. Dr. Kovner had a very strong work ethic and was highly dedicated to her medical calling. She gave herself and her gifts to those who were vulnerable and needed it most.
Dr. Kovner was an amazing wife and mother who was filled with unconditional love for her family. Dr. Kovner was always serving her family and put others before herself. She cherished her family and prioritized spending time with them. Dr. Kovner had many interests and wonderful skills that extended beyond her career. She was a fabulous cook; enjoyed sewing and making garments; cared for a large collection of indoor plants; arranged a beautiful collection of outdoor flowers; enjoyed spending time at the beach, and was an avid New York Yankees fan. Dr. Kovner was filled with energy and enthusiasm and was always in motion.
Dr. Kovner was a truly amazing person. She was a person of faith and prayed frequently. Her heart of gold, love and light inspired and touched those around her. She was a positive force for good and made a lasting and significant impact on the lives of others. Her deep love for her family, positive spirit, and heart for service are the wonderful legacy that she leaves to her family and community. May she be blessed and rest in peace in heaven forever.
