Ernest (Bird) Saunders, 81, passed away at Sound Shore Hospital in New Rochelle on October 22, 2008. Ernest was born on May 18, 1927, in Osceola, AR to Charles and Thelma Saunders, who preceded him in death. Ernest served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and was honorably discharged in 1946. He made his home in White Plains, NY in 1950 with his then wife, Beatrice Saunders. He retired in1985 after a career as a truck driver and belonged to the Teamsters Local 456 Union. He was also a long time member of the I.B.P.O.E.W, Fern Cliff Lodge #367 in White Plains.
He is survived by his ten children; James, Ernest, Sandra Salmon (Lyle), Ronald, Reginald, Thomas, Alesia Blackwell, and Bonita Graves (Anthony) of NY, Charles (Kathleen) of GA, and Kevin of TX; 22 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild. Ernest also leaves behind his sisters; Connie Farmer, Naomi Gilliard, Loretta Wiley and a host of relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his brother Charles Harris of White Plains, NY. Ernest loved games of chance and after retiring spent many days enjoying them.
Interment will be at Calverton National Cemetery, Riverhead, NY.
