Earth has lost a great woman on February 22, 2020 and has gained a new angel. Emma Maria Schmoegner, born September 6, 1921 in Gros Schlaggendorf, Czechoslovakia to Paul and Susanna(Gotthardt) Schmoegner, where she was one of five children. Surviving siblings are: Elfriede Czernotzky, Lilli Strock and brother in-law Berthold Strock, all residing in Germany. Emma was the aunt to three nieces (Birgit, Regine,Annette) and two nephews (Jens,Wolfram), also residing in Germany.
In the early 1950's, Emma came to the United States to work for a doctor as a nanny in Westchester County. Once that position ended, she began work as a waitress at the Hunter's Lodge. Emma continued to work as a waitress at the Showcase Restaurant from the mid 1960's through the early 1980's when the restaurant closed. Then working at the Neptune diner, Flagship diner and then ending her career at the Fare Deal Restaurant, finally retiring at the age of 85. Emma continued to reside in White Plains until 2012, when she moved to Connecticut to live with her son and daughter in-law. She was a member of the East Lyme Senior, Connecticut center for five years. She liked playing bingo and reading. Also known as Omi, she enjoyed spending time with her grand-children and great-grandchildren. Emma spoke German fluently, enjoyed summer trips to Germany and walks in the Black Forrest and playing cards.
Emma was predeceased by her older sister Milchen, Brother Willi Schmoegner and brother in-law Gherhardt Czernotsky. Emma is survived by her son Willy, daughter in-law Doreen, grand-daughter Melissa Berg and grand-son Thomas Schmoegner and wife Brittany. She was the great-grandmother to: Natalie and Alexis Berg, Alice and Kiera Schmoegner.
In 2014, Emma was diagnosed with Dementia, which ultimately led to her death.
