Emily Thomas Bayer of Elmsford, NY passed away peacefully on May 24, 2014. She was a proud Welsh descendant. Her father, Owen Thomas, immigrated from Wales as a young man coming through Ellis Island. Emily was a life long resident in Elmsford and very dedicated to her church, The Elmsford Dutch Reformed Church. She was baptized, confirmed and married Richard J. Bayer there on June 17, 1955. She attended Sunday School and received pins for perfect attendance for 17 years and also served on the consistory. She went to Westchester Community College when it was known as The Battle Avenue CUNY in White Plains, NY. Emily managed the Masters Department Store for 15 plus years and worked at The Town of Greenburgh as a Housing Inspector, from which she retired after 21 years. She sang with Sweet Adeline’s Golden Apple Chorus, Westchester chapter for 15 years. She has traveled all over the world but her heart belongs to Elmsford.
Emily is survived by her daughter Debra B. Lawrance and son-in-law Donald C. Lawrance along with her grandchildren Donald and Melissa. She was known as “Auntie Em” to all her nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly. She loved her extended family, Ron Pilger and Kathleen M. Duffy as her own.
She is predeceased by her husband Richard J. Bayer and her two brothers, Stanley W. Thomas of McCormick SC along with her life long friend and sister in law Nancy Greiner Thomas and Llewellyn Owen Thomas of Littleton, Colorado.
