It is with joyful sadness that, Emil Margine, died Tuesday, the 30th of April at the age of 99. Emil resided at The Bristal Assisted Living at White Plains, NY were he peacefully died in his sleep. Emil was 10 days shy of his 100th birthday.
Emil was born in Hazleton, PA on May 10, 1924 to William and Anna (Kalinich) Margitich. He was the last of his 11 siblings to survive. Emil grew up in Scranton, PA. He served in the United States Marine Corp during World War II from 1943 to 1946 providing state side support to the war effort. He rose to the rank of Staff Sergeant and his Service Record Book indicates he maintained an excellent record in all respects during his military service. Emil married Irene Kalinoski on October 20, 1945 in Scranton, PA, and is survived by their three children, Audrey Riccio (Fred), Bruce Margine (Mary Ann) and Donna Margine. It was during this time that Emil legally shortened his name to Margine. Irene (Reney) preceded Emil in death in 2002.
Emil and family lived in New York City and Fair Lawn, NJ. In Fair Lawn, Emil was an active member of St. Anne’s Parish, local civic groups and was an avid bowler and golfer. Emil and Reney later moved to Allentown, PA and Macungie, PA. After his wife’s death, Emil moved to White Hall, PA. In White Hall he was blessed to have a lovely companion, Roma Handwerk. In August 2022 Emil moved to White Plains NY to The Bristal. There he enjoyed a very active social life right to the very end. Emil enjoyed many fine friendships during this time. He was known to sing to almost everyone and definitely lifted up the spirit of the residents and staff alike.
Emil is a life long member of the Catholic Church and the Fraternal Order of the Knights of Columbus 4th Degree. In Addition to being survived by his children and their spouses, Emil is also survived by four grandchildren: Darren Riccio (Katie), Kristen Riccio Schtscherbyna (Rodrigo), Gregory Margine (Adrienne) and Alexandra Margine (Jamie Hall), six great grandsons: Luke & Jackson Riccio, Teos & Nico Schtscherbyna and Matthew & Robert Margine and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral/memorial Mass will be held:
June 27, 2024 at 10:00 AM at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church
