Elvira de Field, 100 years old, died on July 1, 2023, in Elmsford, New York. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and friend. Her passing has left a profound sadness in the hearts of all she touched.
Elvira was born on February 5, 1923, to Pablo Francisco Herrera and Ines Babilonia Arnedo in Cartagena, Colombia. On May 22, 1955, she married Carlos Field in Cartagena, Colombia and they had five children. She lived in Barranquila, Colombia until she emigrated to the Village of Elmsford, New York in 1990. She was a model resident of Elmsford for 33 years.
A woman of strength and tenacity, Elvira survived COVID-19 in 2020. Even at the age of 100, her mind was extremely sharp, and she loved to share numerous stories of her younger years. She had a jovial spirit, was very lively, and loved to sing and dance. She was an avid and skilled seamstress and cook. Her most popular dish was arroz con coco.
Elvira was preceded in death by her husband, Carlos, and son and daughter, Nelson and Elvirita, respectively. She is survived by her children, Martha Patricia Field, Ines Aminta Field, Adalgiza Field, and sisters, Fanny Vega and Sonia De Van Strahlen. She was the beloved grandmother, known as Abuela, to Jennifer and John Glen and loved by her son in law Anthony Glen.
