Elizabeth A. Weiden

Elizabeth A. (Rogers) Weiden 79, of Valhalla, N.Y. and formerly of Hawthorne and Bronx, N.Y. died on Oct.2, 2009. She was born on Sept.25, 1930 in the Bronx, N.Y. to the late James and Evelyn (nee Tietz) Rogers. Known as Betty to her friends, and as Oma to her family, she was married for 55 years to Peter Joseph Weiden, who died in August 2006. They were married on Feb.3, 1951, at St.Nicholas of Tolentine Church, Bronx, N.Y. She is survived by three loving children; Barbara Weiden Boyd (Michael Boyd), of Brunswick, ME; Brendan Weiden (Kathleen McCarrick), of Bronxville, N.Y. and Bernadette Weiden Glendon (Martin Glendon), of Valhalla, N.Y. She was a loving Oma to her eight grandchildren; Mathias, Colum, and Maeve Weiden; Rachel Weiden Boyd; and Meaghan, Conor, Aidan, and Erin Glendon. She is also survived by her younger brother Robert of Matthews, NC. She was predeceased by her older brother James, of North Hollywood, CA, and her younger brother William, of Yorktown Hgts., N.Y. Betty was a graduate of St. Nicholas of Tolentine High School in the Bronx. She also attended the former Good Counsel College in White Plains, N.Y. After raising her children, Betty earned her Associate's Degree in accounting from Westchester Community College. She rejoined the workforce and held a variety of positions in local businesses before joining the staff of the Pharmacy Department at Westchester Medical Center, where she served as office administrator for ten years and was a dedicated and talented staff member. She retired in 1996 and cared for her husband throughout his long struggle with Alzheimer's disease. Reposing Hawthorne Funeral Home on Sunday (today) 3-8 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in her memory at Holy Name of Jesus Church, Valhalla, N.Y. on Monday Oct.5, 2009 at 10 AM. Followed by burial at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne, N.Y. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Holy Name of Jesus Church, Valhalla, N.Y. would be appreciated.
