Elizabeth "Betty" Mercer

Elizabeth "Betty" Mercer passed away Saturday, April 23, 2016 at the Greenwich Woods Nursing Home in Greenwich, CT. She was born in White Plains on July 14, 1934, the daughter of William C. and Emma S. Von Rein. She was educated in the White Plains School system, later attending Centenary College in Hackettstown, NJ. Upon returning to White Plains, she accepted a position with General Motors Acceptance Corp. as secretary to the Branch Manager. She married Harold Mercer, Jr. on May 18, 1957 and together they raised two children, Ellen and William, parents of her five granddaughters, Elizabeth (Santa Monica, CA), Katherine (San Francisco, CA), Meredith Papera (Wyckoff, NJ), and Caroline and Margaret Mercer (Phoenixville, PA). She was a member of The Women's Club of White Plains and a volunteer at Burke Rehab Hospital working in the Gift Shop, making many new friends there. Visitation will be held Tuesday, April 26th from 2-4pm and 7-9pm at the Ballard-Durand Funeral Home, 2 Maple Avenue in White Plains. The funeral service will be celebrated at St. Matthews Lutheran Church, 3 Carhart Ave, in White Plains, on Wednesday, April 27th at 10am. Interment will follow at White Plains Rural Cemetery.
