Elizabeth Melamid

MELAMID, Elizabeth passed away August 2 in Stamford, CT. Born Elizabeth Jonas April 13, 1921 in Hamburg, Germany, daughter of Dr. Julius Jonas and Julia Oppenheimer Jonas. A survivor of the first “kinder transport “ out of Germany, she settled first in England and subsequently New York City, White Plains and Connecticut. Widow of George Melamid (d. 1976) and beloved mother of daughters Juliet Melamid and Monica Melamid Andreu who both survive her together with her grandchildren Gregory and Gabrielle Gerla and Eric Andreu. She will be missed by all family members and countless friends for her warmth, humor, generosity, enthusiasm and wisdom. Funeral service will be held in private according to her wishes. Donations in her honor may be sent to Visiting Nurse and Hospice of Fairfield County or Westchester Jewish Community Services.
