Elizabeth Conklin Hord born August 21, 1909 passed away peacefully at home on October 31, 2013 surrounded by her children and her caregiver, Ermina Baker. With the exception of several years Elizabeth lived all of her long life on North Broadway in White Plains, New York. She was married to the late John H. Hord.
Elizabeth was a member of the White Plains Presbyterian Church, the White Plains Chapter of the D.A.R., The Woman’s Club of White Plains, the Whippoorwill Club in Armonk and a member of the North Broadway Citizens Association. In addition, Elizabeth was a volunteer at the Burke Rehabilitation Center, the White Plains Hospital Auxilliary and the Senior Center of White Plains.
Elizabeth had a love of life and the people in it and was generous in her support of individual and civic causes. There are many of all ages who have “adopted” her as mother and role model. Elizabeth was an avid golfer and played until she was 95. She liked to travel, to sit on her porch, to dance, and to paddle in her pool, which she did on her 104th birthday. She appreciated all things beautiful from the simplest flower to the grandest sunset.
The center of Elizabeth’s life was her children: Holly Hord Perry (Lana Gold), Heather Elizabeth Hord, Harle Thomas né Hord (Minda Bernstein) and Hilary Kathryn Hord. She also dearly loved her grandchildren: India and Gavin Perry (Beatriz Monteavaro) of Florida and Zoe and Quinn Thomas of Montreal. She was especially close to her niece, Marquin Conklin Barrett and her nephew, Ensign Conklin, deceased. All who survive her deeply mourn her passing.
The family will have a private interment ceremony at Kensico Cemetery on Sunday, November 3, 2013. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the White Plains Presbyterian Church or to the charity of your choosing.
