Heineman, Elizabeth Somay - gourmet-cooking teacher and homemaker died peacefully at the age of 98 surrounded by her daughters Martha-Jane 'Mimi' Weaver, Nancy Beaver, Linda Keil and son Peter. Her husband of 40 years, Mortimer Heineman, Senior Vice President of Lanvin-Charles of the Ritz and former Town of Harrison, NY councilman, died in 1981. Though she lived more than 35 years in Purchase, NY, then Armonk, NY, she spent the last 10 years with her daughter Mimi in Montclair, NJ. 'Liz' was a woman of amazing energy, who had strong opinions on almost everything. During WWII she was a nurse's aide in the Peekskill Hospital. In 1956, she took in several Hungarian refugees. She was a pioneer in creating a cooking school that taught sophisticated culinary arts. In 1964, she travelled Europe visiting cooking schools to learn new techniques and taste new foods. She was a 60-year member of the Purchase Friends Meeting. Her six grandchildren and one great-grand child will remember and miss her always. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Purchase Friends Meeting, 4455 Purchase St. Purchase, NY 10577 or Hospice of NJ, 100 Broadacres Dr., NJ 07003. Memorial service and burial will be Saturday, August 7 at 2 PM Purchase Friends Meeting.
