Eleonore Maria (Denker) Stieve passed away on July 2, 2014 after a long period with dementia. Her husband who has helped care for her at home over the past five years was by her side.
Eleonore grew up in Kassel, Germany. She was the youngest of four children to Karl Denker and Maria (Dasbach) Denker. After World War II, Eleonore immigrated to Great Britain in 1950 and earned her nursing degree in 1955 from the Herrison Hospital in Dorchester, England. In 1958, Eleonore left Great Britain for the United States. She lived in Chicago and worked at the Evangelical Hospital as a Registered Nurse. During this time she enjoyed traveling with her friends while also sending money back home to Germany. In the winter of 1964, she met the love of her life Robert on a blind date, while he was in law school at Northwestern. They were soon married.
Eleonore moved to New York with her new husband after his graduation and began a family. They lived in Yonkers, Hartsdale, and Valhalla. During this period she worked part-time as a teller for the Peoples Westchester Savings Bank and enjoyed time with her husband and children.
She is survived by her loving husband of 49 years Robert Wendall and her two sons Thomas Wendel and Douglas Robert, daughter-in-law, Lisa Ann; two grandchildren Michael (20) and Christine (17), and many aunts, nephews, and cousins.
The Stieve family would like to thank the many nurses and home aids who have provided compassionate care to Eleonore during her final years.
