Eleanor Winters

Eleanor Winters, a former resident of Hartsdale, NY, recently of Leesburg, VA; passed away peacefully on March 25, 2025 in Leesburg, VA; at the age of 89. She was born in The Bronx, NY on June 7, 1935, daughter of Michael & Marion (nee Raven) McGarry.

Eleanor worked for many years as a teacher in the Yonkers Public Schools system, until she retired.

Eleanor was an avid baseball fan, she loved her NY Yankees. She particularly enjoyed spending time with her niece and nephews, they were the joys of her Life.  

Eleanor is survived by her sister and brother-in-law Mary Lou and James Smith. She is also survived by her nephew James M. Smith and his wife Sarah; and their children, Eleanor’s great-nephews David & Michael.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband Robert Winters on November 4, 2016. Sadly she was also predeceased by her niece Marian Kathleen Smith, and also her sister Agnes McGarry.

Her Family will receive Friends on Friday, April 4, 2025 from 3-6PM at the BALLARD-DURAND FUNERAL HOME, 2 Maple Avenue, White Plains, New York. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, April 5, 2025, 10AM at Sacred Heart Church 11 Lawton Avenue, Hartsdale, New York, followed by a private inurnment at Ferncliff Cemetery, Hartsdale, NY.
