Effie Marks - Mendoza, age 74, passed away on February 20, 2020. She was born on April 30, 1945, in Bani, Pangasinan province in the Philippines. She moved to the Netherlands in 1967 where she met her husband, Dirk. Together they traveled around the world in the diplomatic service.

They kept coming back to New York: after their postings from 1984 - 1987 and 2000 - 2005 it was their great desire to come back to the USA to be near their children and grandchild. They returned to New York in 2015 and resided in Hartsdale.

Throughout her professional life, Effie took care of others. Literally from the cradle to the grave: initially as midwife in the Philippines, then nurse in the Netherlands, Japan, Belgium, Yemen and the USA, and finally as aide to elderly people in nursing homes in the Netherlands.

Effie is survived by her husband Dirk, their son and daughter Jonathan and Jackie, daughter-in law and son-in-law Lauren and Sean, and granddaughter Sophia. They will miss her desperately but will cherish their happy memories together.

In lieu of flowers, it's been Effie's wish that you consider making a donation to her fundraiser, the Luac Day Care Center Project in the Philippines, or the Lung Cancer Research Foundation in the USA.
