On May 23, 2013, Edna Mae Emanuel Adams, a lifetime resident of White Plains, passed peacefully into the sunset. Mrs. Adams was born September 27, 1918 to Edith Francis Emanuel and Leon Arsel Emanuel. She was a graduate of White Plains High School and employed by New York Telephone Co., in various positions, until her retirement. She was one of the first African-American telephone operators in New York. Mrs. Adams was a congregant of Bethel Baptist Church and served on the Chancel Choir. Until her health declined, she was a dedicated participant of multiple organizations in the following capacities: Past District Deputy Grand Lecturer Order of O.E.S, PH, Past Matron of Bright Hope Chapter #46, Past Most Royal Grand Commander of the order Cyrene, Member of the order of Golden Circle Pentecostal #86, Member of the Lady of the Circle of Perfection, Past Illustrious Commander of Elejmal Court #171 Daughter of Isis and Past District Deputy Grand Matron of O.E.S, PH.

Mrs. Adams' phenomenal coconut and chocolate cakes and jello mold were consistently sought out during any events to which she donated her culinary skills. She enjoyed entertaining and had a well-developed and bawdy sense of humor.

Mrs. Adams leaves behind two daughters, Gail Robinson and Karen Gadson-Tapp, a son, Brian Adams, two sisters, Carole Taylor and Brenda Norman, two granddaughters, Candice Heller and Amari Adams, one grandson, Shawne Robinson and five great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Luther and three sisters, Dorothy Williams, Emma Durant and Joan Rogers. A special debt of gratitude is owed to Jerome Frazier and Marguerite Swain who lovingly provided for her every need for the past five years.

Services will be held on Tuesday, May 28, 2013 at Bethel Baptist Church, 1 Fisher Court, White Plains. The wake will commence at 10:00 a.m. followed by the funeral at 11:00 a.m.
