Dr. Philip Douglas Lief of White Plains, NY died on August 23rd, 2021. He was 81. He was a graduate of Yale University (1961), and the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine (1965) and completed a research fellowship in nephrology at Tufts University (1969). During the Vietnam War, he practiced medicine at the Naval Hospital in Oakland, CA (1970-1972). For over four decades at Montefiore Medical Center and Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Dr. Lief filled many leadership positions. He had a passion for education and trained hundreds of doctors over the span of his career before his retirement in 2017. Philip is survived by his wife of 51 years, Edna Lippman Lief, children Michael (Ariel) and Amy (Jeffrey), four grandchildren, and brothers Jonathan (Barbara) and Peter. Above all his accomplishments, nothing gave Philip more joy than his beloved family. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 26th at 10:00 am at Congregation Kol Ami in White Plains, NY. In lieu of flowers, please send donations in his memory to Montefiore Medical Center.
