Dorothy Helen Maiden 83, a longtime Mt.Pleasant resident passed away in the evening hours of April 7, 2015. She was born on August 8, 1931 to the late Harry and Frances Groen in Yonkers, N.Y. Dorothy was a dedicated Town of Mt.Pleasant employee for nearly forty years and approved the construction of many of the buildings we see around town today. She was a deacon of the Reform Church of Hawthorne and a volunteer at Phelps Memorial Hospital. Prior to moving to Mt.Pleasant she worked for General Motors and also at the Empire State Building in New York City. A daring individual who loved trying new things; she was a frequent traveler who often took trips to exotic destinations including, China, Egypt and New Zealand. She was also an avid reader of books. Her family would like to give a special thank you to her Doctors, who's relentless care helped keep her alive for so many years. Dorothy was predeceased by her devoted husband, Arthur Maiden, Sr. in 1997. She is survived by her loving children, Arthur Maiden, Jr. and Richard Ernest (AnneMarie) Maiden both of Thornwood, N.Y. and Dawn Frances Hardwick of Holmes, N.Y. two sisters, Evelyn Mellor and Beatrice (Michael) Pison both of Florida. Also survived by her three cherished grandchildren, Jesse Vaughn Maiden, Alyssa Ann Maiden and Savannah Leigh Hardwick. Reposing, Hawthorne Funeral Home on Saturday, 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM. Funeral Service, Hawthorne Dutch Reformed Church on Sunday, 1:30 PM. Interment to follow at the Church Cemetery, Hawthorne, N.Y. In lieu of flowers donations to Hawthorne Dutch Reformed Church, Hawthorne, N.Y. would be appreciated.
