Dorothy Huttunen

Dorothy Florence Yost Huttunen of Hendersonville, NC, died Monday, July 20, 2015. She was 94 years old.

She was preceded in death by her husband Ray Huttunen, who died 1985, and ten siblings.

Dorothy served in the US Army Reserves, and was a graduate of Lenox Hill Hospital School of Nursing and Columbia University Teachers College. Dorothy worked as an RN and was a Nursing Supervisor at Lenox Hill Hospital for 10 years. She retired from White Plains Hospital as the assistant Director of Nursing. During her career she taught LPNs as part of the Manpower Development Training Program. Dorothy was a volunteer with hospice and served as ombudsman with Henderson County Nursing Home committee.

She is survived by a daughter, Laurie Huttunen of Black Mtn., NC; three sons, Ken Huttunen of Hendersonville, Todd Huttunen and his wife Carol of Tarrytown, NY, and Paul Huttunen and his wife Karen of Brewster, NY; three grandchildren, Erica Huttunen, Kristen Huttunen, and Maya Ponzini.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 4:00 PM and 7:00 to 9:00 PM on Friday, July 24, 2015 at the Ballard-Durand Funeral Home, 2 Maple Avenue at South Broadway, White Plains. Interment will take place in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Bronx, NY.
