Dorothy E. Crandell

May 18, 1925 — May 28, 2016

Dorothy Elizabeth (nee Chapman) Crandell, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Saturday, May 28th at the age of 91. "Aunt Dottie" was the youngest in a family of 3 children that included her sister Ethel Moody (Chapman) and her brother Albert J. Chapman, both of whom preceded her in death. Dottie was a lifelong resident of Hawthorne, NY and resided in the home her father built in 1924. Dottie was ahead of her time in the working world, balancing career and motherhood. She was a self-made woman who had a long and successful career with The Reader's Digest, holding positions of responsibility while raising her son James M. Crandell. James sadly predeceased his mother in 2004. Dottie was well known and liked by her neighbors and enjoyed participating in events with the Mount Pleasant Seniors over the years. Dottie will be most remembered by her family and friends as an avid collector who took great pride and care in elaborately decorating her home for each and every holiday. Dottie is survived by many loving nieces and nephews, her daughter-in-law, and her grand and great grand- nieces and nephews. Reposing, Hawthorne Funeral Home, Monday June 6, 2016 from 10 AM to 12PM. Funeral Services will take place at the Hawthorne Funeral Home on Monday June 6, 2016 at 12 PM. Interment, Kensico Cemetery, Valhalla, NY to follow.
