Dorly Monk

Dorly (Scherrer) Monk 83, a former longtime resident of Hawthorne, N.Y.since 1963 and Somers, N.Y. since 1991, died on Oct.21, 2011. She was born on Feb. 16, 1928 to the late Dr. Fridolin and Augusta Kern Spieler in Basel, Switzerland. She immigrated from Switzerland to Stamford, Conn. in 1952.Dorly worked as a medical technician at St.Agnes Hospital in White Plains, N.Y. and retired in 1991. She enjoyed tennis, bridge, gardening and traveling, but most of all loved spending time with her family and close friends. She was predeceased by her husband Dr. Friedrich P. Scherrer and her second husband George B. Monk. Also predeceased by her brother, Fritz Spieler and sister, Elisabeth an husband Dr. Cyril Vogel of Laufen, Switzerland. Dorly is survived by her son Peter Scherrer and wife Debbie of Yorktown N.Y. and daughter Doreen and husband Dru Welburn of Chappaqua, N.Y. one sister Margrit and husband Dr. Peter Boolukos of Maryland;. and sister in law Dory Spieler of Laufen, Switzerland; eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Visiting at Hawthorne Funeral Home on Sunday, 2-5 PM. Funeral Mass, Our Lady Queen of Peace Chapel at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne, N.Y. on Monday, 11:30 AM. Entombment to follow.
