Donald Peter Whyte of Hartsdale, NY, died on February 8, 2012. He was 88 years old. Don was born in Bronx, NY, on July 24, 1923, son of the late Frederice and Elizabeth Whyte. Don was a WWII Navy Veteran. Don was a Life member of the AMA & NRA, Club Secretary/ Treasurer for Crotona Motorcycle Club and the Elmsford Gun Club. Don was also a Founding Member of the RSES and long time Secretary for the Metro NY Chapter. He was an expert marksman and a fierce competitor. Don won his last motorcycle rally The Eastern States National in his 60s. Don worked in HVAC industry during his career including air conditioning the 1964-65 World's Fair. He also worked as a hard lines buyer and product service for J.C. Penney and J.A. Sexhauer.
Surviving are his beloved wife Viola Whyte, and two children Bruce Whyte, Nancy Re and son in law Frank Re and his grandson Joseph Re.
Friends will be received Tuesday, February 14, from 2-4pm and 7-9pm at the Ballard-Durand Funeral Home, 2 Maple Avenue at South Broadway, White Plains. Funeral service will be held at The Presbyterian Church, 39 North Broadway, White Plains, NY on Wednesday, February 15, 2012 at 10 AM. Interment will follow in the St. Raymond's Cemetery, Bronx, NY.
