Donald J Blum, 87, of Scarsdale, NY, died peacefully, with his family at his side, on December 12, 2011. He was a life-long Scarsdale resident, leaving only for service in WWII. He survived the sinking of the USS Indianapolis in the closing days of the war. Born in 1924 to Joseph K. Blum and Madelaine B. Blum. He graduated from Fox Meadow School, Scarsdale High School and Stevens Institute of Technology with a degree in mechanical engineering. Worked as an engineer for 60 years. Avid golfer, skier and sailor and member of Sunningdale Country Club, Orienta Yacht Club and the Old Guard. Enjoyed 60 years of marriage to Sandra F. Blum and together they raised 3 children (Linda, James and Thomas). Survived by his wife and children and 9 grandchildren (Aza, Aviva , Henry, Tiina, Aenea, Eric, Annie, Mark and Lauren). Also survived by his sister, Elizabeth B. Landauer and brother, Roger G. Blum. An excellent raconteur, his wit and wisdom will be missed. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Human Development Services of Westchester or Rails-to-Trails in his name would be appreciated.
