Dennis Joseph Jordan, a long-time resident of White Plains, NY, died peacefully at home on Jan. 16, 2009 at the age of 76. Born in the Bronx on April 1, 1932, he was a veteran of the Korean War, a longshoreman on the New York City waterfront for 20 years, the owner of a successful flooring business in the Bronx, and a proud member of the Tunnel Workers Local 147 (Sandhogs) and the Dockbuilders Local 1456. In addition to his work and commitment to the American labor movement, Dennis was an avid reader of American and world history and a die-hard New York Giants football fan. He also loved to take on home improvement projects. However, his true passion was his love and dedication to his family. No matter the circumstance, Dennis, a devout Roman Catholic, always contributed to a host of religious and humanitarian causes, culminating in the gift of his earthly body for medical research. He leaves behind his devoted wife of 56 years, Helen, and his children (and their spouses), Joanne of Chapel Hill, NC; John of Middletown, NY; Jacqueline Moussavi of Ridgefield, CT; and Janine Jordan-Covert of White Plains, NY, and brother Michael. He was predeceased by his father Denis, his mother Johanna, and brothers Cornelius and James. He is also survived by nine grandchildren: Jordan, Catherine, and Robert Harrell; Sean Jordan; Darius, Lily, Rachel, and Sarah Moussavi; and Alexandra Covert; and many nieces and nephews. There will be a memorial service at Hawthorne Funeral Home on Tuesday, Jan. 20th from 7 to 9 p.m. A funeral Mass of the Resurrection will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 21st at St. John the Evangelist Church, White Plains, NY at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center of NYC or the Philadelphia Ronald McDonald House.
