David Robert Blot residing at 5700 Arlington Avenue, Riverdale, N.Y. passed away peacefully early Thursday morning on August 19, 2021 at Montefiore Hospital in the Bronx. Born in White Plains, New York on May 13, 1941, he was the son of the late August and Carmela Blot of Thornwood, New York.
David graduated from Stepinac High School in White Plains and earned his undergraduate degree from Catholic University in Washington D.C. He further continued his education and received a Ph.D. from Fordham University in the Bronx.
For 50 years Professor Blot taught English as a Second Language in NYC schools and for the past 30 years at Bronx Community College as a full time Associate Professor in the Department of English Language and Literature.
On campus at Bronx Community College, Professor Blot coordinated the Creative Culture of Peace Non-Violence Teachings and was the faculty advisor to the Peace and Social Justice Club. He was considered an “awesome” professor by his students, many who looked forward to future classes with him and being members of the Peace Club. He taught about how to be at peace with others and to live in harmony in this world.
Every year at Christmas, David would include a “Peace” letter in his card to family and friends. In 2017 Professor Blot participated in a panel on the “The Radical Imagination: Imagining and Teaching about Peace,” a television broadcast on MNN (Manhattan Neighborhood Network). Professor Blot was the author of many books used in his teachings: “Starting Lines”, “Write from the Start”, “Put it in Writing” and others as well as “Wild Rice” the biography of Vivien Lillie Rice, a spiritualist. David was also known for his many philanthropic endeavors.
He is survived by: Pastora Blot of New Jersey, 5 sisters and brothers, Margaret Sedlmeir of Preston Hollow, N.Y., Richard Blot of Bronx, N.Y., Virginia Scatoloni of Trenton, N.J., Lorraine Cifuentes of Thornwood, N.Y., Stephen Blot of Hawthorne, N.Y. And many nieces and nephews.
Visiting at Hawthorne Funeral Home on Tuesday, August 24, 2021 from 4-8 PM. Where funeral services will be held at 7 PM. Graveside services at Kensico Cemetery, Valhalla, N.Y. on Wednesday at 11:30 AM.
