Cynthia Sobsey, of Chapel Hill, NC, died Tuesday, April 15, 2008 in Duke University Medical Center, she was 87 years old.
She was born December 13, 1920 in New York, NY, daughter of the late Pinchos Jassinowski and the late Lillian Fine and resided for most of her life in Crompond, Westchester County, NY.
She was a strong advocate for access for the disabled. Despite her own disabilities she was an avid swimmer, gardener and horticulturist.
She studied music, dance and fine arts, and attended The Juilliard School, State University of New York at Purchase and other academic institutions. She was a gifted pianist, artist (sculpture and painting) and poet. Her poetry was widely published in newspapers, periodicals and books and she was a member of poetry societies in Westchester County, North Carolina and nationally.
Surviving are her son, Mark D. Sobsey, a granddaughter, Leah J. Sobsey, both of Chapel Hill, NC and a grandson, Adam, of Durham, NC.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Solomon Sobsey and her son Kenneth Sobsey.
