Concetta "Connie" Solazzi Walter passed away on April 30, 2020 at Phelps Memorial Hospital at the age of 85 after battling COVID 19. Connie was born in New York City on July 23, 1934 to Toby and Hilda George Solazzi. Connie grew up in the Bronx and graduated from Evander Childs High School in 1952. After graduation Connie worked as a secretary in the Executive Office at the Plaza Hotel in New York City. During this time she reconnected with her former high school classmate and soon-to-be husband John "Jack" Walter at the Astor Bowling Alley. They married on August 18, 1956 at St. Valentine Church in the Bronx and celebrated their wedding at The Plaza Hotel. Soon after they began their family. They resided for a short while in the Country Club section of the Bronx and eventually settled in Dobbs Ferry, NY for the next 35 years to raise their 5 children. Connie is predeceased by her loving husband John "Jack" Walter Jr., her beloved son John Walter III, his darling wife Mary Ellen Petrone Walter, and her precious grandson Brian Walter. Connie is survived by her four loving children. Her daughter Debra Walter Rago and husband Kenneth of Croton-on-Hudson, NY. Her son Michael Walter and his wife Linda of New Rochelle, NY. Her son Robert Walter and his wife Patricia of Somers, NY and her daughter Lisa Walter Calicchia and her husband Joseph, Jr. of Yorktown Heights NY. Connie is also survived by her dear sisters Joyce Solazzi Shay and her husband Russell and Arlene Solazzi Sepik and her husband Robert, all of Dunellon, Florida. The highlight of Connie's year was visiting her sisters and their families in Florida every winter. Additionally, Connie is survived by her 11 adoring grandchildren, Timothy J. Rago and his wife Kima, Michael Walter Jr. and his wife Daniela, John Albert Walter, Brittney J. Walter, Lauren A. Rago, Joseph J. Calicchia, Lindsey A. Calicchia, Brian Walter, Austin C. Rago, Gianna L.Calicchia and Jack Walter. Connie will also be missed by her many darling nieces, nephews and cousins whom she loved greatly. Though Connie is gone, she will be forever remembered for her various contributions to her community and in the lives of others. From her earlier years she will remembered for volunteering as a class mother, boy scouts leader, softball coach for the Ardsley Bobcats, and for running the library at Sacred Heart School in Dobbs Ferry. Connie was a lifelong bowler, majhong player and avid reader. During her life she was always known for her interest in health, wellness and would always be quick to recommend an article to others that could help them. Connie was ahead of her time; she was taking natural remedies and changing ingredients to make recipes healthy way before it became popular. Connie enjoyed sharing her home with family and friends and everyone was welcome at her dinner table. You could also always find Connie looking her best not only physically but cosmetically and fashion wise. Even in her later years she kept up her appearance looking extremely well for her age. Connie will warmly remain in the hearts of her family because of her lasting impact as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She will always be revered for her caring nature and devotion to her family. Anyone related to Connie could tell you about the love she gave to them and how it holds a special place in their heart. Her great love and devotion is recognized by all and will live on forever in each and every one of their lives. On May 16, 2020, there will be a private service at Ballard Durand Funeral Home and burial following at Woodlawn Cemetery. Both have been restricted to immediate family by NY State regulations. The Walter family will have a Celebration of Life service for Connie at a future time.
