Maria “Connie” Bambace, a lifelong resident of West Harrison, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on March 3, 2017. She was born to the late Salvatore and Filomena (DeVito) Mezzancello on February 11, 1925. On November 14, 1947 she married her high school sweetheart, Rocco Bambace, who predeceased her. She is survived by her son, Rocco Bambace, her daughter, Sherry (Bambace) Salerno, and son-in-law, Joseph Salerno. Connie is also survived by her adoring grandchildren, Heather (Bambace) Attenello (Gary), Nicholas Bambace, Joseph Salerno (Alison), and Robert Salerno. She is also survived by her great grandchildren who brought great joy to her life – Alexa, Daniela, Juliana, Tyler, Kyle and Mackenzie. She was predeceased by her loving brothers and sisters and daughter-in-law, Valerie Bambace. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Anne (Dolly) Mezzancello and brother-in-law, Peter (Barney) Bambace, and many adoring nieces and nephews who gave her much love and happiness during her lifetime.
Connie was a devout Catholic and lifelong parishioner of St. Anthony of Padua Church. She was known as a “Prayer Angel” who was a true believer in prayer and said her daily prayers for many. Her favorite pastime was knitting and crocheting; these hats, scarves and blankets were all labors of love which she gave freely to all. She also loved receiving requests for her famous “taralli” cookies. Her most joyous moments were dedicated to her family, friends and wonderful neighbors. Family and friends may visit on Tuesday, March 7, 2017, from 5-9 p.m. at the Ballard-Durand Funeral Home, 2 Maple Avenue at South Broadway, White Plains, NY. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Church. Interment will follow in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery, White Plains.
