Charlotte Julia Walsh, 93, of Hawthorne, NY, passed away peacefully on February 20, 2025. Charlotte was born in New York City on May 10, 1931, to Harry and Julia Goeldlin von Tiefenau. She was raised with her two sisters in Larchmont, NY, but the family had deep ties in Luzern, Switzerland, and traveled back and forth many times over the years for extended family visits. Charlotte grew up with a close-knit group of friends from elementary school who stayed together all of their lives. She attended Immaculata College in Washington, D.C. and following her graduation, worked in NYC. On a trip to the Bahamas, she met her future husband of 54 years, Joseph Rall Walsh. Joseph had attended Georgetown University and together, they discovered mutual friends and a love of D.C. They married on February 12, 1955, and welcomed six children, five sons and a daughter. While raising their family in Hawthorne, NY, Charlotte worked for many years as the secretary running Hawthorne Elementary School. She was also very involved in her church, Holy Rosary Parish, serving over the years as a Eucharistic minister, member of Rosary Alter Society, choir member, and volunteer readying the church for mass, among many other activities. Charlotte was a force of nature; she was known for being incredibly strong and resilient, forward-thinking, positive-minded, and always kind. She often said she proudly raised her children to be independent, and she fully supported all of their life choices. She was a stylish dresser, avid reader, sharp card player, and passionate Yankees fan. With her wide circle of friends, as well as being a loving and involved mother and grandmother, Charlotte was always active - contributing to and focused on helping others in some way, shape, or form. She was the family matriarch who left a legacy that lives on in all who were touched by her.
Charlotte is predeceased by her husband Joseph, her sisters Marianne Bechhold and Dorothy Herlihy, as well as her parents and daughter-in-law, Victoria Banks Walsh. She is survived by her loving children, Joseph Walsh, Jr. of Southbury, CT, Stephen (Emily Stamelman) Walsh of Katonah, NY, Gregory (Kellie) Walsh of Parker, CO, Kate (Gregory) Wenzel of Ithaca, NY, Christopher (Debbi) Walsh of Cross River, NY, and Peter (Carol) Walsh of Goldens Bridge, NY, as well as her 14 grandchildren: Kristine (Jay) Shah; Joseph, III, Lindsay, Julia, Eliza, Victoria, Lea, Erin, Colin, Christopher, and Owen Walsh; and Zachary, Sean, and Ryan Wenzel. She is also the great-grandmother to Kyle and Theo Shah.
The family will hold a funeral Mass on Saturday, March 29, 2025, at 10:00am at Holy Rosary Church, in Hawthorne, NY.
