Catharine Cunniff

Catharine Cunniff of White Plains passed away on June 20th after experiencing kidney failure. Catharine was born in Shefield Pennsylvania on 10/15/1913 to Thomas M. Cunniff and Anna E. (Dolan) Cunniff. Catharine put herself through nursing school and went on to become a dedicated employee of the Grasslands Hospital (now known as Westchester Medical Center). After retirement in 1973, she volunteered at the local library reading stories and sharing her passion for life to children for many years. Catharine was preceded by her parents and two sisters, Mary and Dorothy and two brothers, Leo and Emmett. She is survived by several generations of nieces and nephews and countless friends who will all miss her incredible mind, gifted storytelling and enormous heart. Funeral preparations are being made by the Ballard-Durand Funeral Home, and she will be buried in the family plot in St. Joseph's cemetery in Waren Pennsylvania. A small private gathering will be held in Waren Pennsylvania at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations will be accepted by Elmsford Animal Shelter or Pets Alive Westchester.
