Carol Shiffman, Executive Director of the Music Conservatory of Westchester, died on October 24, 2011. The arts community has lost a leader who has worked on both coasts with national organizations.
In Los Angeles she was a teacher, performer and choreographer who founded her own dance company. She went on to become a prominent arts administrator, empowering artists and serving diverse communities through the California Arts Council; Centrum and Cornish College in the Northwest. She then returned to her roots in New York as Dean of Dance at SUNY Purchase.
She passed away peacefully at her home from breast cancer at the age of 65. She is survived by a large and loving family and her husband and partner in the arts, Larry Harbison.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Carol Shiffman Fund at the Music Conservatory of Westchester, 216 Central Avenue, White Plains, NY 10606.
Funeral services will be held at Ballard-Durand Funeral Home, 2 Maple Ave, White Plains on Thursday, October 27, 2011 at 1:00pm.
