Carmen F Guarnieri

November 22, 1933 — January 5, 2017

Elmsford

Born on November 22, 1933 Departed on January 5, 2017

Carmen F Guarnieri of Coconut Creek Florida died peacefully with his son and two daughters at his side. Carmen was born on November 22, 1933, to his parents Nazario & Theresa nee Rescigno who he cherished. Carmen recently moved full time to Florida to enjoy the weather and social life he and his wife Geraldine so much enjoyed. Carmen lived much of his life in Elmsford but also resided in Eastchester and Tarrytown for periods of his life. Carmen was a plumber by trade and ultimately owned his own plumbing company for many years before making a career change and holding the position of building inspector with the Town of Greenburgh which he held until his retirement. In addition to raising his family Carmen was extremely active in his community throughout his life; Carmen was a member of the Elmsford Live Oak Engine Company #1 in his younger years, was a former mayor of Elmsford and longtime Trustee. Little League coach, Kiwanis Club, Lions Club, American Italian club, are just some of the organizations in which he was a longtime member. Throughout his life Carmen enjoyed bowling, boating, gardening, and working with his hands, there was no project or repair he wouldn’t take on. Carmen was also an avid sports fan and was very passionate about his favorite team, the Yankees. Carmen rarely missed a game even after his eyesight was taken from him. Carmen usually held the upper hand when having passionate discussions about baseball with his son James, a suffering Mets fan, except for the rare season when the Mets fared better than his Yanks. Carmen’s six grandchildren, Nicole, Kristen, Peter, Michaela, Taylor, and Matthew and his 4 children, James, Ann Marie, Ellen, and Michael gave him great joy and pride. During any contact with Carmen he always wanted to be reassured that his wife, his children, grandchildren, his brother, nieces and nephews were okay and enjoying the best in life and great success. Carmen also enjoyed a special relationship with his older brother Donald who he loved dearly and had a great respect for. Carmen and Donald always looked out for each other from childhood and throughout their adult years, a special bond that was admired by all who knew them. Carmen is survived by his wife Geraldine, his brother Donald, and his children, James (Erika), Ann Marie Morici (Peter), and Ellen Amicucci (Anthony). Carmen’s son Michael predeceased him in 1983. Carmen’s first wife Catherine also survives and resides in North Carolina. Friends may call at the Ballard-Durand Funeral Home (Elmsford Chapel), 72 East Main Street, Elmsford on Monday, January 9, 2017 from 5-9pm. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10AM Tuesday at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, Elmsford. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
