Countless are the number of lives she touched… Carmella DeLosa of Thornwood passed away on Wednesday, July 26th at the age of 97. She was born on July 19th, 1926 to Rose (nee Mafia) and Gaetano Ippoliti. She graduated from Roosevelt H.S. in Tuckahoe and although she was awarded a 4 year college scholarship, circumstances dictated that she pass up this scholarship and work to help support her family. She started her government employment with the Civil service commission in NYC. She went on to become the first female position classifier with the Northeast district of the Army Corps of engineers. She married the love of her life, Joseph DeLosa in 1953 and they settled down and moved to Thornwood in 1956 where they started their family with the birth of their son Joseph.
Carmella was always giving of herself and was a familiar face to all of those in the local marching arts community as she was a chaperone for the Thornwood F.D. band the Lancers, 'Guard Mom' for Images Color Guard and all around magician for the Blue Crew Marching Band. She was an executive assistant at IBM where she retired in 1991. She is a former member of the Mt. Pleasant Seniors where she had many friends and enjoyed all their trips and activities.
She is survived by her husband of 70 years Joseph, her son Joseph, Jr. and his wife Deborah and their son Joseph III.
