Carmela “Millie” Salamone, a longtime resident of Nanuet, NY, passed away peacefully on September 18, 2016 just 3 days shy of her 89th birthday.
Carmela was born in Tuckahoe, NY to Leonardo and Leonarda Cornacchia and grew up with her close knit family in Westchester County. She enjoyed careers with Macy’s Herald Square and the SMPTE. Carmela met her husband Bill during a vacation to Block Island, RI and they soon married. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was the true constant in her family’s life. Carmela enjoyed volunteering at school, was a voracious reader and a devout Catholic. She instilled her love of God, family, education and travel into her children. She loved to create meals from Bill’s prolific vegetable garden and her family enjoyed many specialties each night at dinner but her favorite hobby was baking countless scrumptious desserts. Carmela and Bill always looked forward to Sunday dinners at the house of Mary and John Lolis, her sister and brother-in-law, where there was always the buzz of family stopping by. She adored the large extended family she and Bill had together. Carmela was married for 45 years when Bill passed away in 2012.
Carmela is survived by her daughter Stephanie Miller and husband Craig; her son Frank Salamone and wife Angela; her grandchildren Thomas Gregory, Amelia Grace, Violet Josephine and Leonardo William; her sister-in-law Margaret Cornacchia; many beloved nieces, nephews and their children.
Carmela is preceded in death by her husband Bill Salamone; her brothers Rocco (Stella) Cornacchia, Angelo Cornacchia, Eugene (Marie) Cornacchia, Louis (Lillian) Cornacchia; her sisters Incoronata (Ralph) Maresco, Lucy (Tony) Scampoli, Ida (Joe) Parella, Elvira (Mike) Odell, Mary (John) Lolis.
