Budd Schmiedel, Born October 11, 1921 in New York City, Budd Schmiedel passed away peacefully the morning of April 19, 2013. Budd lived a depression-era childhood, the only son of George O.H. and Elsie (nee Strassel) Schmiedel. He is survived by his adoring wife, Almeda (nee Jones), his son Cary (Lori Light), three grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He is predeceased by an older sister Vivian Webster and a grandson G. Matthew Schmiedel. Budd graduated from Mount Vernon schools and joined the Army Air Corps in 1942. Stationed at a number of Air Force bases, he was present in Alaska for the launch of Jimmy Doolittle's "30 Seconds Over Tokyo" and was pilot-trainer at Malden, Missouri, where he met "Meda". At some point during World War II, the Air Force selected him as part of an elite group known as the Advanced Special Training Program, meant to provide occupation organizational and administrative relief to countries of war-torn Europe. Budd spent his career in commodities brokerage (Doran & Schmiedel of Fort Lee, New Jersey) and then as an account executive with Bache & Company and finally Merrill Lynch, Pierce, Fenner & Smith ( White Plains, and New Haven offices). Reposing Hawthorne Funeral Home Monday 5 - 8 PM where services will be held Tuesday 11 AM. Interment Kensico Cemetery, Valhalla, NY.
