YAVITZ, Boris, died peacefully after a long illness on February 14. Boris was born in Russia on June 4, 1923, married to Irene Bernhard for 59 years. He was the proud father of three daughters, Jessica, Judy and Emily, father-in-law of Neal Lipschutz, Mark Jurish and Gregg Chappell and grandfather of Eric, Kenneth, Max, Claire and Madelyn. Graduated Cambridge University and was awarded a Masters and PhD from Columbia University. During World War II, he served as a lieutenant in the British Royal Navy. He devoted 30 years of his professional career to the Columbia University Graduate School of Business as professor, dean, and the Paul Garrett Professor of Public Policy and Business Responsibility. Boris served as a Director and Deputy Chairman of the New York Federal Reserve from 1977 to 1982, and as a director on several boards of major companies.
