Betty Jane Goldsmith, 86, formerly of New Rochelle, died Saturday, December 12, 2009 at the Dorothy and Joseph Goldberg Healthcare Center in Encinitas, Calif. She was the wife of the late Henry Goldsmith of New Rochelle. Mrs. Goldsmith was born in New York City on November 15, 1923 to Emmanuel and Sylvia Lewis. The family moved to New Rochelle when she was a child and she continued to reside in New Rochelle after her marriage to Henry in 1943, and his death in 1981, moving to California 5 years ago. She was a longtime employee of Forbex Corporation, an export firm formerly of New Rochelle. Upon her retirement she finally was able to fulfill her dream of travel abroad, and found time to tirelessly volunteer her services to the Republican Party. Her lifelong friends will sorely miss her good-natured helpfulness and generosity of spirit. Mrs. Goldsmith is survived by her son, Jan Goldsmith of San Diego, California, and her daughter, Linda Lavelle of Ridgefield, Connecticut. Her six grandchildren, Brett Goldsmith of Philadelphia, Scott Goldsmith of Los Angeles, Jenny Goldsmith of San Diego, Dana Krasinski of Southlake, Texas, Juliet Sander of Seattle, and Darren Fabbri of Bennington, Mass. will all miss her greatly. In addition, she leaves behind 5 beautiful great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, December 21, 2009 at the Hawthorne Funeral Home, 21 West Stevens Ave., Hawthorne, NY. Burial will follow at Mt. Eden cemetery in Hawthorne. Contributions in Mrs. Goldsmith's memory may be made to The Museum of Jewish Heritage, 36 Battery Place, New York, NY 10280, or to The National Parkinson Foundation, 1501 N.W. 9th Ave., Miami, FL 33136.
