Bertram U Lynn

January 11, 1916 — March 13, 2012

Born on January 11, 1916 Departed on March 13, 2012

Bertram U. Lynn, 96, a longtime White Plains resident, passed away peacefully at home on March 13, 2012. He was born in Jersey City, N.J. on Jan 11, 1916. Bert proudly served as a lieutenant with the Company C, 37th Engineer Combat Battalion during World War II, where he led a unit in the third wave of the D-Day assault on Omaha Beach in Normandy. While stationed in Wales he met and married Margaret (Meg) Screech, who predeceased him in 2008. Bert worked at Countywide Gas in White Plains and Armonk , and later enjoyed working at Westchester Ski and Sport Shop.
For decades Bert was a faithful and dedicated member of Ridgeview Congregational Church, UCC, serving at various times as moderator, choir member, and participant on just about every committee there was. His wisdom, humor and common sense were much valued. Bert's contribution to the greater UCC organization was recognized when he was appointed Moderator of the NY State Conference of the UCC. He will be sorely missed by his daughter Sue of White Plains, son Dave and family of Bolton, CT, son Jeff and family of So. Lake Tahoe, CA, and numerous dear friends.
Bert had a passion for writing, poetry, singing, the sea, sunsets, golf, the Mets, and single malt scotch. He was appreciated for his ability to relate to others on many levels, and to provide valuable advice to those experiencing life's challenges. Many were grateful for the sharing of his intelligence, life experiences, and understanding of the human condition that enabled him to counsel with realism tempered by compassion.
