Loving husband, father and grandfather, Bernard Roche, age 73, passed away in Tampa, Florida on March 5, 2010. Barney was born in Cork City, Ireland to the late Ellen and Richard Roche. He was raised in Ireland and in 1954 decided to pursue his dreams in the United States. Upon his arrival, he was drafted and served as a proud member of the 82nd Airborne Division of the United States Army. He became an American citizen in 1961. He met the love of his life, Barbara Galuppo, and married her in 1971. Together they raised 5 children in White Plains, NY where he was employed for over 30 years with Local 32-E as a Superintendant at Longacre Garden Apartments. He retired in 2006 to the home he built with his wife in Kerhonkson, NY. There he enjoyed his retirement by working on the house, spending time with family and riding his grandson around on his tractor. He and Barbara bought a home in Cape Coral, Florida in 2008 and began spending winters there. In 2009, they decided to make Cape Coral home, where he resided until his passing. Barney loved the New York Yankees and was thrilled to see them win the World Series this year. He survived by his wife Barbara, sons Mark and John, daughters Tara and Kristin, daughter Kerry and son-in-law Blake, and grandchildren Liam and Scarlett. Barney spent most of his adult life helping others fight addiction. In that vain, a memorial fund has been set up to continue this work.
