Barbara Schanne

Barbara Ann Schanne, age 90, passed away on March 5, 2024 after battling a short illness. She was born on February 2, 1934 to Harold and Dorothy (née Palmer) Riley in Yonkers, NY. After the death of Harold, Dorothy remarried to Charles Storms, who eventually adopted Barbara thus becoming Storms. Barbara was happily married to husband Kenneth Schanne for 49 years, from May 15, 1954 until his death in 2003. Together, they raised their children in their Yonkers home. Barbara worked for various companies handling administrative work before retiring from Lucent Technologies. She lived out her final years with her daughter Kathy in Monroe, CT.

Barbara will be remembered for her great sense of humor and people who crossed her path found her to be a sweet and caring woman. A lifelong dog and cat owner, she had a wonderful way with animals. She enjoyed movies and going out to restaurants. In her younger years, she would travel with Kenneth, enjoyed scrap booking and bowled in ladies' league at Homefield Bowl in Yonkers.

Along with her husband Kenneth, she is predeceased by siblings, Margaret Thompson & Frankie Storms. She is survived by siblings Billy Storms, Dorothy Conroy and Charles (Skippy) Storms and her three children Kathy Balletta of Monroe, CT, Michael Schanne of Yonkers, NY and Christopher Schanne and his wife Melissa Schanne of Wood-Ridge, NJ. Barbara is also survived by her granddaughter Dana Balletta of Boston, MA/Monroe, CT. A wake will be held at Hawthorne Funeral Home on Friday, March 8 from 4-8 PM. Her funeral service will be held in the same location on Saturday, March 9 at 11 AM, followed by the burial at Gate of Heaven Cemetery at 12:15 PM. In lieu of flowers donations to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, Memphis, TN, would be appreciated.
