Barbara Rainer, 91, passed away at home after a long illness. An accomplished pianist, a teacher at the High School of Music and Art, she played flute and cello with the Westchester Symphony and chamber music with her friends. With her husband, John Rainer, M.D., she traveled the world. Passions included progressive causes, painting, theatre, movies, mysteries, swimming, tennis, dance, banana cream pie and museums, where she would drive everybody to exasperation inspecting each canvas. A lifelong student, she was a fixture at Columbia and Purchase. Above all, Barbara adored her family. She leaves behind loving sons Jeff and Peter, daughter-in-law Iwona, grandchildren Marta, Jeremy and Alex, and her devoted caregiver Mary. Service 11:00 AM, January 20th at Ballard-Durand Funeral Home, 2 Maple Avenue, White Plains, NY 10601. Charity donations welcomed in lieu of flowers.
